Before taking the plunge, there's one thing that you need to consider when taking on the role as a DHT. Would you be prepared to be the Head teacher? This could happen if the Head teacher is taken ill. Do take a moment to reflect on this question.
DHT interviews on average take two days, below are a list of intray activities that I've accumulated. I'll upload links over the coming months.
Data exercise (Typically an anonymous RAISEonline report, 98 pages to summarise action points in 20 to 30 minutes)
In tray exercise - various scenarios
Observe a lesson and feedback (Ensure you carry the Ofsted framework for Teaching in your bag, it can come in use)
Presentation to staff
Gold fish bowl activities (I don't enjoy these. Golden rules: Contribute but don't dominate, get others involved and value the opinions of others)
Presentation to Governors (Keep it simple and show them your vision and personality)
Final panel interview (Typically made up of Head teacher, LA advisor and several governors who may not be teachers, avoid excessive jargon and try the questions below. The governors will also want someone who could eventually be Head)
A list of questions that I've accumulated over the years, try them using the STAR (V/L) technique.
